We perform diagnostic testing for many types of breathing and cardiac problems. The Cardiopulmonary Department at Columbia Memorial focuses on the respiratory system where you'll always receive treatment by a licensed Respiratory Therapist. We use the latest technology to diagnose patients who have heart or lung conditions. Our Respiratory Therapists provide treatment and testing for many types of lung problems, such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Tests we perform:
Pulmonary Function Testing
Arterial Blood Gas Analysis
Pulse Oximetry
Echocardiograms/TEE
Holter Monitoring
Cardiac Stress Testing
EEG and EKG
TEE

In the hospital we have a staff of Cardiologists, Pulmonologists, and Respiratory therapists available around the clock, seven days a week.

Our state-of-the-art ventilators provide the most effective mode of breathing assistance, which cuts down the amount of time a patient needs to be on the ventilator. Our echocardiogram equipment has extremely high resolution to show heart function and help diagnose valve and other heart abnormalities. Our cardiac sonographers are specially trained in echocardiogram testing.

We also perform the highly specialized TEE, where the patient is sedated and a probe is inserted in the throat so that pictures of the heart can be taken from inside the body, providing a better image. This procedure is performed by a Cardiologist with special training in this modality.

All our therapists, nurses and physicians are NRP certified (Neo-Natal Resuscitation Provider) from the American Heart Association. This means that the entire team that participates in the delivery of a newborn can resuscitate a newborn if needed. This is a level of expertise that is not required by most hospitals however, this is our consistent commitment to patient safety. As part of our commitment to the community, our department provides community education for asthmatic children in both Greene and Columbia counties.
