Hospital receives state award
The New York State Department of Health has awarded Columbia Memorial Hospital's Emergency Department certification as a 24 hour Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) Center of Excellence.
“Multiple community agencies, especially the REACH Center in Hudson, were instrumental in helping us win this award and contribute greatly to the working relationship that makes this program so effective,” says Mary Daggett, Director of Community Health Services at Columbia Memorial.
According to the citation, Columbia Memorial offered proof of their ability to provide trained examiners and services that met all standards of service delivery for patients who have experienced rape or sexual assault. This citation included acknowledgement of the hospital’s proper collection of forensic evidence, which met all New York State criteria and current standards of practice.
“The hospital looks forward to continued working relationships with these community agencies to ensure that victims of sexual assault are provided with competent, compassionate and prompt care with the most current methods of forensic evidence collection and preservation,” says Daggett.
