White gains national wound care accreditation
Karen White, RN, Director of Nursing Services for the Center for Wound Care at Kaaterskill Care Nursing and Rehabilitation in Catskill (an affiliate of Columbia Memorial Hospital), has become one of the only nurses in the area to gain accreditation by the National Alliance for Wound Care.
White earned this accreditation after successfully completing a course given by the Wound Care Education Institute. The program was implemented in accordance with the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
The Center for Wound Care of Columbia Memorial Hospital, located in Jefferson Heights in Catskill, provides treatment of chronic, non-healing wounds in an outpatient setting. “Difficult-to-heal wounds result from injury, vascular disease, diabetes or surgical complications,” says White.
“Non-healing wounds can lead to serious complications. However, most wounds can be healed with appropriate, comprehensive treatment,” she says.
According to information from the Wound Care Institute, the advancement of wound care "is an evolving area of discovery, resulting in new options for optimal care practices for all practitioners.”
White’s course of study dealt with “sanctioned and cutting edge techniques in the arena of skin and wound management.”
Her course of study included principles of wound healing, wound management, wound assessment, topical wound management and adjunctive treatment methods.
White, an RN since 1992, has been a nurse with the Center for Wound Care for the last three years. She is a resident of Purling, NY.
The services of the Center for Wound Care at Columbia Memorial Hospital are designed to integrate protocols to ensure that patients receive optimal care. Utilization of cutting edge techniques coupled with diligent nursing and medical care have yielded dramatic results.
