(Hudson, NY) Nearly 500 Columbia Memorial Hospital supporters, members of the medical staff and hospital administrators joined together for a wonderful night at the 24th annual Columbia Memorial Hospital Ball. This year's host for the evening was Marlene Brody, a long-time hospital supporter. Featured sponsors included USI Insurance Services, PMA Companies and Millennium Medical Imaging.
The $500,000 raised at this year's Ball will contribute toward major renovations on two floors of the hospital, including hospice and the mental health unit. In the past five years, more than $2 million has been raised at the annual fundraising event. These proceeds have supported major renovation projects and the purchase of new medical technology and equipment.
This year's Ball honored hospital President and CEO, Jane Ehrlich. Ms. Ehrlich joined the hospital as its President and CEO in 1994. Now, eighteen years later, Columbia Memorial is a very different place than when she first arrived. A number of transformative projects have been completed on her watch that will benefit the community for years to come. The list is long, but here are some of the highlights.
There has been a complete re-engineering of both the facility and processes that ensure quality care. Outstanding physicians have been recruited and retained, and the medical staff is now 200 strong representing 32 specialties. The Kellner Wing houses a busy Emergency Department and state-of-the art surgical suites. The Intensive Care Unit has been designed for exceptional functionality and patient care. More than 500 babies are born each year in the award-winning Family Birth Place. The addition of the Hudson River Bank & Trust Foundation Medical Office Building has dramatically changed the campus, offering easy access to a wealth of heath care services: physician offices, lab testing, and world class medical imaging. Computerization has occurred throughout the hospital system, from the billing department to the bedside, and throughout the hospital's thirty Care Centers. The hospital is a national leader in electronic medical records implementation, is a NY State designated stroke center and has taken a leadership role in New York State in patient safety. 100% of the staff is trained in patient safety.
Columbia Memorial Hospital has been serving the region for more than 120 years. The hospital's fundraising partner is the Columbia-Greene Hospital Foundation. The Foundation raises money from generous individuals and businesses and through special fundraising events like the annual hospital Ball. Every dollar raised helps to purchase the very latest equipment and technology and fund renovation and expansion projects so that the hospital can provide the very best health care to the community.
