Columbia Memorial Hospital Registered Nurses will give free blood pressure screenings at Holy Trinity Parish (formerly St. Mary's) after the Saturday 4 pm mass and Sunday 9 am mass on May 21st and 22nd. They will also do screenings on June 18th and 19th, July 23rd and 24th at the same times, according to Leitha Pierro, Vice President of Patient and Clinical Operations at the hospital.
High blood pressure is one of the leading causes of heart attack. Early detection saves lives.
As part of an on-going education effort, the hospital also offers important health lectures by area physicians and other healthcare providers.
May is "Stroke Awareness" month. The first lecture will be Tuesday May 11th from 6:45 to 7:30 pm at the former St. Mary's Academy, 301 Allen Street in Hudson. The presenter is Craig Stanger, MD, Chief of Emergency Medicine at Columbia Memorial.
Stanger will speak about the signs and symptoms of stroke and the importance of seeking immediate medical care. Time saved is brain saved. The screenings and lecture are open to anyone in the community.
