Kathleen M. Rennie, PT, DPT, and a Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS), has joined the Columbia Memorial Outpatient Rehabilitation Department on Fish and Game Road in Hudson, NY.
Each year more than one million Americans suffer from Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), according to reports from the Centers for Disease Control.
Traumatic brain injuries can range from mild to severe, and can be the result of motor vehicle accidents, sports injuries, falls, stroke, domestic violence, or other assault.
Columbia Memorial Hospital recognizes that patients with TBI often require hospitalization and extended rehabilitation for the many physical, cognitive, and emotional issues surrounding the injury.
According to AnnaMarie Zietsmann of Columbia Memorial Rehabilitation, patients with TBI have decreased balance, gait deficiencies, impaired strength, or inability to perform daily work or leisure activities often leading to safety issues. Patients need to re-adapt to their home environment and re-learn how to be a productive member of society.
Ms. Rennie has specialized training in the incidence and epidemiology of TBI, brain anatomy and brain-behavior
relationships, functional impact of TBI, and effective treatment approaches. She sees young children, adolescents and adults with brain injury and she treats the whole family.
Ms. Rennie is available on a full-time basis to assist in maximizing each individual's functional independence. Ms. Rennie
is currently accepting referrals and can be reached by phone at 518-828-8704.
