She's a mother of two, an expert in infectious diseases, and she laughs: “I have a Russian man’s first name.”
Illya Szilak, MD, has joined Hudson Medical Care and will practice internal medicine. She is a Diplomate in Infectious Diseases and Internal Medicine from the American Board of Internal Medicine. She was a Fellow in infectious disease at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York City and did her residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital.
Hudson Medical Care is an affiliate of Columbia Memorial Hospital and is located in the Medical Office Building adjacent to the hospital on Prospect Avenue. It provides family-centered, preventative and holistic health care.
“I hope to develop a diverse patient base here,” says Szilak, who came to Columbia Memorial from The Housing Works in an urban setting in New York City where she was a staff physician overseeing difficult urban health cases including HIV primary care.
“My goal at Columbia Memorial Hospital is to build strong patient trust and to practice preventative medicine which brings good health to all my patients,” she says. Dr. Szilak is a native of the hill country of Texas near San Antonio and came to our area with her husband Chris, who is in the visual arts funding field, because our area is “rich in cultural offerings.”
New PA Jeanne Pierce, RPA-C, a native of Sodus, near Rochester, is providing comprehensive, quality care in her position with Hudson Medical Care working with doctors Lauren Vigna, John Pomichter and Illya Szilak.
Pierce worked at Twin County Medical Associates for eight years before joining Columbia Memorial. Pierce did her undergraduate work at the Health Sciences Center at Syracuse University. She got her Masters in Health Education from Cortland, and her P.A. certificate at Le Moyne College in Syracuse. She is the mother of two girls and is married to Todd Sandegato of Hudson, who also is a P.A. in the Emergency Department at Columbia Memorial.
