Columbia Memorial Bone & Joint adds sports medicine expert

Dr. Stefan Rau
Columbia Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce the addition of Scott M. Pregont, MD to our Care Center team. Dr. Pregont is joining Columbia Memorial Bone & Joint.

With a background in Primary Care, and fellowship training in Sports Medicine, Dr. Pregont's practice will be a key component in Columbia Memorial's bone and joint/rehabilitation pathway. This pathway is designed to restore patient function through diagnosis, surgery when necessary, rehabilitation, and, in the case of sports medicine, "return to play" protocols that help protect players and prevent re-injury.

Dr. Pregont will be working with the hospital's Physical Therapy department to provide the best possible care not only to local schools' sports teams, but to the young and the young-at-heart alike. His specialty does not focus on one specific age group but includes professional, collegiate, and high school athletes as well as older adults who engage in recreational athletics or exercise.

"It is my goal to get people back to doing what they like to do," said Dr. Pregont.

"I plan to be going to schools on a weekly basis to provide evaluations in close consultation with the athletes' parents and school athletic trainers and coaches, giving another trained set of eyes to ensure the safety of the athletes."

Dr. Pregont has worked with the Pittsburgh Penguins hockey organization as a team physician and was a team physician at the Division I collegiate level for Bucknell University. He specializes in musculo-skeletal pathology, injury prevention, and concussion management.

After graduating from The University at Albany-SUNY with a B.S. in Combined Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Dr. Pregont completed his medical education at Albany Medical College in 2006. He continued at Albany Med and did his residency in the Family Medicine Department. Dr. Pregont also completed a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at Geisinger Health Systems in Pennsylvania. He is from Colonie, New York and attended Colonie High where he played football and was involved in the arts.

Dr. Pregont's primary office hours are at Columbia Memorial Bone and Joint Care Center on Fish and Game Road in Greenport. He is also seeing patients at the Catskill Bone and Joint facility at Jefferson Heights one day a week. To schedule an appointment, please call: 518.828.7644.
