Columbia
Memorial sponsors blood drive to boost regional supply
In an effort to increase the regional blood supply, Columbia Memorial Hospital
will hold a community blood drive with the American Red Cross. The drive
will be Thursday, Jan 19, 2006 from 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM at the Administrative
Services Building, 30 Prospect Avenue in Hudson.
According to Community Health Services Director Mary Daggett: “the statistics
are clear. Every two seconds, someone in America needs blood. Every day, 34,000
donations are needed in the United States to help save the lives of cancer patients,
accident victims, and children with blood disorders among others. This affects
every member of our community, where they work, live and play, whether it’s
a friend, family or neighbor who needs blood. Just one pint of blood can help
save as many as three lives.”
Any healthy person age 17 or older and weighing at least 110 pounds may be eligible
to give blood. All current eligible and new donors are urged to schedule and
keep appointments by calling Community Health Services at 518-828-8013 or visiting www.donatebloodnow.org. Identification
is required at the time of donation to give blood.
