About Columbia Memorial Hospital

Our mission

The mission of Columbia Memorial Hospital is to provide our communities with safe, high quality, comprehensive health care services in a dignified and compassionate environment.

An innovative hospital

Columbia Memorial has served our region since 1893. The hospital you visit today, however, is one of the newest, most innovative and technically advanced facilities in the Hudson Valley.

Everything we do, hiring the best and the brightest and rebuilding our entire hospital, is designed with one specific goal: to provide you with expert care.

We are the community's hospital. Serving more than 100,000 residents in Columbia, Greene and Dutchess counties, the hospital focuses on advanced surgery, primary care and health education. It is a 192-bed acute care hospital. We also operate a 120-bed long-term care site as well as 26 outlying primary and specialty care centers.

We've invested more than $51 million in new facilities and equipment in the last ten years including surgical instrumentation, patient information systems and medical imaging technologies. Columbia Memorial also has a 71,300 square foot office building and parking garage annex on campus making your care and treatment easily accessible.

Our Kellner Wing houses state-of-the-art emergency and surgical departments. Our Emergency Department uses an advanced computer system to reduce patient waiting time and assist doctors and nurses in tracking patient care. It is also being used as a "preparedness tool" to help us track health information and identify public health emergencies.

We now have a new 9 bed Intensive Care Unit which provides more space for our patients in order to accommodate cutting edge technology at each bedside. Each patient has an individual room to provide for privacy and windows and skylights to enhance the healing process.

Innovative programs

Our Obstetrics Department is the award-winning Family Birth Place. It is one of the most up-to-date birthing centers in the state and was recognized by the American Society of Healthcare Engineers prestigious VISTA Award. Its entire staff is certified in neonatal resuscitation for which they received the Special Delivery Award from the American Heart Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Advanced Orthopedics

The Columbia Memorial Bone & Joint Center - with state of the art facilities in Greenport and Catskill - can serve all your orthopedic needs including minimally invasive techniques and total joint replacements. And we are one of the few orthopedic programs to offer the innovative Birmingham Hip Resurfacing System which preserves bone and joint stability for young, active patients rather than replacing the entire hip joint, as in a traditional, total hip replacement.

Transfusion-free medicine and surgery

Our transfusion-free surgical approach minimizes blood loss before, during and after surgery. It is done in less than 130 hospitals nationwide and eliminates the risks associated with donor blood.

Our Pain Management Program

Utilizes a multi-disciplinary approach to treat both acute and chronic pain. Columbia Memorial Hospital provides comprehensive treatment of acute and chronic pain for both inpatients and outpatients.

Premier surgical center

With our minimally invasive laproscopic surgery program, our orthopedic surgery program and our transfusion free surgery Columbia Memorial remains a center for surgical excellence in the Hudson Valley.
